Clearing the Browser Tabs – Go Away Christine Wednesday Edition
I don’t know how to make this point delicately, so I’ll just make it plainly. Christine O’Donnell does not deserve any bit of the attention she has gotten since she piloted her Senate campaign into the side of Mount Failmore last November. She has nothing interesting to say about politics or grassroots organization and certainly nothing worth publishing in a book. She was not a special darling of the Tea Parties; their support existed because she wasn’t Chris Coons.
It was a mistake for the Iowa Tea Party to invite her speak at their event on Saturday — a big one (via memeorandum). They partially-corrected the mistake by disinviting her as nicely as they possibly could, though their conflicting stories do not cover them in any great glory. Hopefully, that will be the last we see of O’Donnell on the national political stage for a decade or so.
I don’t imagine she’s looking for any advice, but if I were in a position to give it, I’d beseech her to stay out of the spotlight for a while. She needs to take a regular job — yes, maybe even one in politics where she wouldn’t be in the spotlight — and work at it diligently for a while. Perhaps she can help out a local county GOP organization somewhere and learn the ropes. I’d recommend she study her conservative philosophy so that when she is ready to get back in as a candidate again, she’ll have more than talking points behind her. She could one day be a formidable candidate for the House or Senate, but that day is a long time from now and conservatives are far better off if she stays out of the spotlight for a while.
I’ll be away from the computer for most of the day. I expect that I won’t get the post for last night’s episode of The Delivery up until later in the evening, or perhaps even first thing tomorrow. It was a good show, though, with a raucous and fun bunch of Deliverati in the chatroom. If you haven’t come along for a live show, why not try to make it in the next couple of weeks?
And now, links!
- Why Venn Diagrams are breaking out all over! It’s like you can just make one and it will auto-magically prove any point you want to make.
- In the wake of the Politico hit piece on Rick Perry I discussed last night on The Delivery, Melissa Clouthier thought it would be a good idea to go back and re-introduce us all to JournoList.
- Another shoe has dropped in the Operation Fast and Furious scandal. The administration reassigned Kenneth Melson, acting head of the BATFE, to another position inside the Justice Department. That brings the total number of high-ranking officials who were in charge of the operation and are now in new positions closer to the White House to, I believe, four.
- As you know, Stacy McCain spent a good chunk of time in Iowa recently and he covered a number of events related to the Ames Straw Poll. One of those events was a Michelle Bachmann speech at a Christian music festival. Well, some chucklehead stole Stacy’s video and chopped it up to make it look as if Bachmann has said something really stupid and racist. Stacy called him out on it and sicced a lawyer on him, after which said chucklehead removed the video and apologized for his rank dishonesty. That should have ended the matter, but notable guttersnipe Perez Hilton stole the chopped–up video himself, put his own name on it, stuck it on his own blog and repeated the same lie. CBS News then made Hilton’s stolen and dishonest video a Top Five viral pick of the week. Stacy is now out for blood, and he should get it by the bucketload.
- If there’s a dumber word circulating around the left than “Teavangelical”, I haven’t heard it.
- Exxon Mobil has decided that the “push back twice as hard” advice the President had his minions give to union thugs would work pretty well in court, too. Good for them. I hope they win big.
- Well what do you know? The more we study, the more we learn — this time our discovery isn’t about global warming but about chocolate and health.
- A point. I haz it.
- If you’re a fan of science fiction, you’ve probably heard of author Vernor Vinge. Reason TV sat down with him for an interesting interview about his books and what he sees as the coming singularity.
- I think James Lileks may be the best chronicler of small-town/middle American live we have on the web today. He is what Garrison Keillor used to be, before Keillor went full barking mad.
- Jane Jameson, who wrote at the Uncovered blog, passed away unexpectedly yesterday. One of her co-bloggers will keep the site running but her presence will be missed. I can’t say that I knew her well, but I did get to talk to her a couple times at CPAC and she seemed to me a good woman.

Gee, Jimmie. What do you really think of CO’D?
I agree, though.
I hope O'Donnell reads your blog and takes your advice.
