Clearing the Browser Tabs – Buffett’s Tax Dodge and The Delivery Update Tuesday Edition
So Warren Buffett wants the government to take more of his money, huh? Well, okay. I guess I can get behind that, though it’s awfully lazy of Buffett to make the government come after his money when he could cut the IRS a check any time he wanted to. Heck, I bet he could swing by his local tax office with a suitcase full of cash if he really felt like it and the IRS would take it gladly and write him a bice little receit.
But that’s not what he wants. He wants the government to play around with the tax code more so that he can dig his greedy little fingers into the nooks and crevices that a more complicated tax code would create. Diane Ellis at Ricochet found a few places where Buffett is making quite a good chunk of money off the government. Perhaps instead of using the power of the government to rub unwilling citizens of their hard-earned money, Buffett could lobby his friend Barack Obama to close the loopholes that make him millions of dollars. That way the government would save more money and Buffett himself would have less of it. Problem solved, right?
I say we ask him the next time he pops out of his money bin to point the guys with the guns at the rest of the nation.
A quick update on the show tonight. As of right now, I still plan to record the show and to at least attempt to do the live UStream broadcast. My connection stayed reasonably stable yesterday evening, which gave me hope. I didn’t see anyone from Verizon, but I didn’t actually expect a visit. Perhaps someone will come by tomorrow, though I admit it’s a pie in the sky dream. If tonight is like last night, we might just get a live show done with a minimum of fuss. If not, SMPMike and I will do the show the old way and it’ll be available for everyone to hear tomorrow on the web sites and iTunes. Please keep an eye on my Twitter feed. If things go badly, I’ll make a game-time decision and post it there.
And now links.
- Just a few days ago, the President said he was the most reviled political figure since Martin Luther King, Jr. Well, move over MLK because the President found himself a new yardstick named Abraham Lincoln (via memeorandum)!
- For what it’s worth, I agree with Stacy McCain and Ace. Sarah Palin isn’t running for President. Unorthodox campaign style or no, any credible candidate needs two things Palin simple does not have: a well-organized campaign team and a few friends inside the party apparatus. From where I sit among the electorate, I see neither one. That’s not to say that Palin is a bad person or that she doesn’t have a very important place in the conservative movement. Indeed, it’s a sign of her intellect and wisdom that she’s not trying to push a candidacy that doesn’t have enough of a structure to get off the ground.
- I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t work for Arianna Huffington even if she did pay me, which is doubtful since she won’t shell out a hundred bucks for a lousy web site logo.
- How ready is the MSM to pile on Rick Perry? Very, very ready. And it’s not just the MSM either. The coordination between MSM and left-wing blogs has already begun: note the memeorandum threads on negative stories about Rick Perry from just yesterday here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. That’s eight trending topics on memeorandum — all negative — in just one day.
- James Lileks had a great piece yesterday on the difference between smart and stupid and why stupid should never, ever win, no matter how hip it seems (via Instapundit).
- I can’t imagine any business that spent over $19,000 to train one employee would survive longer than a couple years, can you?
