Clearing the Browser Tabs – The Fog of the Moral Equivalent of War Sunday Edition
As I wrote yesterday, we seem to be in the endgame portion of the partisan debt ceiling circus. It’s entirely possible that the whole deal will be finished some time tomorrow and all the made-up talk of crisis will fade until the next time there’s some need for a few partisan points.
We’ll see. You’ll never go broke betting on the Democrats’ ability to throw us overboard for another scrap of political power or the Republicans’ ability to completely mishandle an excellent opportunity. What does seem certain is that the deal will be so complicated that the average person won’t have the foggiest idea what’s in it until long after it’s passed. That, folks, is by design. Not for nothing is politics continuously likened to war. The intentional “fog” spread over many of the doings obscures Washington for many of the same reasons it obscures a battlefield.
And now, links!
- If the debt ceiling “debate” didn’t convince you that the Republican Party has yet to learn the lesson of the 2010 election, perhaps this story of Big Nanny Government will convince you.
- I’m not quite sure you can play the race card on someone with a hand full of them, but darned if Democrats won’t try.
- America is a car nation. Automobiles are as much a part of the culture and imagination of the country as blood and sinew are to your mortal body. Those who do not understand that, who have stayed aloof form the vital heart of America, are destined to do such foolish things as try to push toy cars and high-speed rail lines on us in their vast ignorance.
- I’m pretty sure everyone needs an origami Yoda and, if you have steady hands and can follow video directions, you can have one, too.
- If you’re a gamer, and you can’t turn this into a cool mystery or horror role-playing game plot, I question your geek creds.
- Big congratulations to Stacy McCain, whose blog the top 75 of Doug Ross’ list of the Top 150 Conservative Blogs. Doug’s list comes from Alexa traffic rankings, so if you get a good way up that list, it’s because your blogshake brings all the uniques to the yard. Other blogs of note on the list: The Lonely Conservative (96), Legal Insurrection (99), Moe Lane (135), and Nice Deb (149). The Sundries Shack debuted on the list as well, in the 137 spot above the very good Babalu, Blog Prof, and Q and O. I also out-ranked the 2011 CPAC Blogger of the Year, so take that you fancy big-shot conference!
