Clearing the Browser Tabs – Other Stuff Happened Yesterday Monday Edition
As you may have heard by now, something happened over in Pakistan yesterday that was just the tiniest bit newsworthy — and reports that a certain The Other McCain blogger just might have had a bit of a hand in it can be neither confirmed nor denied.
Andrew Malcolm has about the most complete timeline of events that led to Osama bin Laden’s long-overdue demise. I recommend you supplement that with this little nugget from Michelle Malkin about the role played by the secret prisons maligned and closed by the President in the raid.
One of the lessons we can learn from last night, especially from the 90 minutes we waited for the President to delivery his announcement, is how the MSM’s traditional ways of doing business have now been relegated to post-event analysis.
And before I get on with all the other things that happened yesterday, here’s one last bin Laden link (and do check memeorandum for a wealth of interesting reading) — video from Ground Zero that just might give you goosebumps.
And now, links!
- I’m not sure who in the Maryland government suggested it was time to raise the gas tax, but they should be fired. It is a foolish idea designed only to cover a shortfall in transportation money cause by dishonest government spending.
- My pseudonymously-named friend Phineas reviewed a book of the life and Presidential career of James K. Polk. It does sound like a good read.
- Barack Obama needs to learn three things about comedy: 1) it’s rarely funny to mock American patriotism, 2) you don’t ambush someone with insult jokes, and 3) self-deprecating humor only works if it’s actually self-deprecating.
- Did anyone see where the New York Times went?
- Paul Ryan’s budget plan is not a home run, but it’s certainly a solid double off the base of the wall.
- If you have 45 free minutes over the next couple of days, I highly recommend you spend it listening (or watching) Andrew Klavan speak on “Conservatism in American Fiction”.
- This Mary Steyn column on the debt ceiling is a must-read today.
- Troglopundit has all the important stories of the week, told by motivational posters.
- Now that Osama bin laden is dead, perhaps we can turn our attention to another brutal despot.
- It’s not unusual to hear a member of the MSM pine for the days when they were the only game in town. In a related story, it seems a fair question to ask these days if journalism school is even a good idea.
- If you have children in Pennsylvania schools, you might want to make sure they aren’t being used as political props for the teachers’ unions and the SEIU.
