Clearing the Browser Tabs – Hard-Liner Unhappiness Saturday Edition

When I went to bed in the wee hours of this morning, I knew that the post I wrote on John Boehner’s budget deal wasn’t going to be the majority opinion among the True Conservatives on the right, and I was right. Mark Levin hated the deal and all but called it fraudulent and an embarrassing defeat. Andrew McCarthy rained all over the parade as well with what I think are some pretty predictable objections. Jeff Goldstein wrote that Boehner got “crumbs”.

Take those objections for what I think they are — cries of despair from earnest and well-intentioned conservatives who see the approximately $50 billion in total cuts (I disagree with Levin on the overall total) as a very small drop in a raging deficit ocean. As I wrote this morning, I entirely understand (and to a large extent, share) the urge to fight to the bitter end, no matter if that end involves a big loss.

Stacy McCain hewed to a middle path as did Dan Mitchell. I think their analysis will prove the most accurate in the end (and see Philip Klein for a straightforward, but optimistic, rundown), though I don’t mind doing a slightly more muted victory dance than the ones being done at the Strata-Sphere and Potluck.

And now, links.
