Clearing the Browser Tabs – ‘Twas the Thursday Before Snowpocalypse Edition

The Washington, DC area is all atwitter about the possibility of a sizeable snowstorm due to arrive late on Christmas Day. I have heard forecasts calling for accumulation up to 12 inches, which has more than a few people on the edge of sheer panic. I suppose I can understand their reaction. After last year’s Snowpocalyptic winter, even the hint of another big storm brings back memories of days upon days of poorly-plowed roads, potholes the size of Smart Cars, and battles royal over the last pack of toilet paper in the local 7-11.

Don’t laugh. We don’t normally get a lot of snow here, though more than most cities in our general latitude. Our yearly average is between 16 and 22 inches (at least over the past 40-59 years, which is about what New York City gets) and we’re used to that being spread out over a few snowstorms. When one comes along and dumps half of that or more on us all at once, well, it does cause a little dysfunction. We’re not exactly Mammoth Mountain.
