Dum Dum Dum DUM!: Today is Beethoven’s Birthday
Today is the birthday of legendary composer Ludwig van Beethoven, who would have turned 241 today if he had been a Galapagos Tortoise instead of a human being. To celebrate the day, Jenn at It Ain’t Baroque has shared with us a little Beethoven Humor.
You could also find a friend to help you recreate Beethoven’s last knock knock joke with pupil Louis Spohr:
Spohr: Knock knock.
Beethoven: …
Spohr: Knock knock!
Beethoven: …
Spohr: KNOCK KNOCK!
Beethoven: …
It’s the joke that never ends!
I’m pretty sure I was first exposed to Beethoven’s wonderful music through the Charlie Brown specials that aired usually once a year on special occasions on the television. I still have a soft spot in my heart for Schroeder, and here’s why.
Later on, I discovered the full set of Beethoven symphonies my parents owned and practically wore them our on the record player in our basement. You know how some kids picked up the air guitar? I was an air-conductor. I’d put on my Dad’s good headphones, put on the Fifth or Eighth Symphony, crank up the volume, turn so I could see myself in the wall mirror across the room, and imagine I was Bernstein or von Karajan. I’m pretty sure I could direct at least a couple of Beethoven’s symphonies from memory even today.
Happy Birthday Maestro and thank you for the amazing music.
