What? I’m Making an Erudite Point About Body Image Here!

Yes, She's Wearing High Heels on Grass.
Kim Kardashian naked in the latest edition of Harper’s Bazaar? Well, okay, Internet, if you insist!
Some might wonder why I, a respected blogger of substantial intellectual heft and impeccable rhetorical style, would stoop to linking a story about Kim Kardashian naked in a major glossy magazine. To those people, I can only say…Rule 5.
What’s that? You insist on actual substance? Well, okay. Kim Kardashian is not going to win any rounds of Jeopardy in the near future, but there are plenty of young women out there who consider her worthy of some level of emulation. Now, I’m not saying young women should emulate her naked modeling work, but this bit is not a bad message for girls to hear.
Explains Kim of her body: “I don’t get why everyone is always going on about my butt. I’m Armenian. It’s normal. My butt is probably not as big as you might think, because I have small legs and a small waist, which makes it appear bigger.”
On her insecurities while growing up, Kim says: “I was wearing a C cup by the time I was 11. I would go to bed and pray, ‘Please, Lord, don’t let my boobs grow any bigger.’ I hated what was happening.”
You can’t overestimate how important it is for young people to know that others have struggled with the same problems they are struggling with now. If a few teenaged girls read those quotes and think, “Well, hey. If she had problems with how she looked and she turned out okay, then maybe I’m not as bad as I think either”, then who am I to go full Cotton Mather on her photo spread? I’m willing to praise the good she’s doing here, in the hope that perhaps she’ll do more.
Good, that is. Not posing nude, because that would be wrong.
