Such a Difference a Century Makes

This photo was taken in 1908 in in a city that today boasts a metropolitan area (the city and surrounding suburbs) of several million people.

Any guesses? I’ll put the answer and the link to a high-resolution version of the picture after the jump. No cheating and clicking on the picture to get the filename either!

This is Miami, Florida. A bit tough to believe that the city has come as far as it has in a century? This particular view, for those of you who know the city is looking south down 12th Street not far from Avenue D (according to Shorpy, from whence the picture came). Tough not to love the amazing energy of our entrepreneurial spirit when you consider how far we’ve come in a little more than a lifetime.
