Come On Apple, Cut Me A Break, Huh?
If Apple’s new OS is going to require me to use the App Store for any new program I buy, I’ll ditch it so fast it leaves a sonic boom. Hopefully, I’ll be able to use Leopard for a good long time because, from the look of this writeup on the new OS called Lion, it’s going to be a huge pile of suck foisted on me by a guy who thinks he knows better what I want my computer to do than I do.
I honestly don’t know why it’s so blasted difficult for a company to make an OS that: a) works; b) lets me dial up the level of complexity and organization I want, and c) doesn’t force me to climb another learning curve every time a new version comes out.
This can’t be all that difficult, can it? Look, Apple, it’s very simple. Not all of us have iPads and iPhones, and even we did, we don’t want a computer that acts just like one. We’re paying an awful lot of money for your hardware, could you not grief us with your version of what you think we should be using and give us an OS that lets us use our computers the way we want to use them?

I'm pretty sure what you're looking for is called a PC
I used a PC for a long time. I can't stand the instability and sheer cussedness of Windows. I'd hate for the Apple OS to go the same route.
Eh, I like the fact that I don't have to spend $19,356 (exact quoted figure from the salesman!) & also love that I'm free to customize like crazy if I wanna. I'm a picky girl and I need options, dagnabbit!
Honestly, I can live with Mac Prices (700 for a Mac Mini and a grand for a MacBook) if I get the stuff I like about using a Mac. Otherwise, I'm running out of options quickly. I can't go back to Windows!
I'm planning on getting a new laptop for Xmas, finally moving from XP to Win-7. If Win-7 sucks I'll be dual-booting Ubuntu, which I like quite a bit and use on another laptop already. Debian-style package management rocks.
I don't think you have to worry about Apple locking out third party apps… yet.
Agreed, an iPad and a computer are different things, and should behave differently.
