Senator Murkowski Contemplates Her Future Career As a Giant Fish

I’ve been sitting on this link for a few days because, quite honestly, I don’t know what to do with it. Lisa Murkowski, Alaska’s outgoing Senator, has been sounding less and less hinged since her stunning defeat to a guy who isn’t part of the “Alaska Mafia”.Being chunked out of office like a bucket of waste water has made her desperate and she has no idea what to do with herself, as she demonstrated in this interview in the Homer News (Motto: The Coolest Newspaper Name Evah!)

Considering her options, Murkowski thought about finishing her term, returning to Alaska and finding a new direction. “I’ve got good earning potential, I’m still relatively young, and if I want to set my sights on a Senate seat in four years or the governor’s office in four years, I can do that, but every time I processed the option of just stepping back, there was just such a sadness I felt that I was failing to listen to the people who were asking me to offer them a choice,” said Murkowski. “But I started listening to what Alaskans were saying. We can do it. We should do it. We will do it for Alaska.”

What in the world is she talking about here? Earning potential? Running for a Senate seat after the voters just kicked her narrow behind out? Giving Alaskan voters a choice that they’ve already made?

It’s clear to me that Lisa Murkowski has never even contemplated life as anything but a United States Senator. She is completely adrift at the thought, which explains her desperate write-in bid. She reminds me of a lifelong assembly line worker who suddenly learns that the plant is closing. Except that worker hasn’t clamped herself, leech-like, to the taxpayers’ underbelly for the past few years. The worker deserves our help; Murkowski deserves the old heave-ho.
