Jimmy Carter, Aged and Decrepit Old Dolt

I wonder, these days, if Jimmy Carter isn’t suffering from the ravages of old age. Each year reveals him to be more and more a bitter, spiteful old man possessed of some truly bizarre beliefs. He uncorked one of those beliefs earlier this week on NBC Nightly News earlier this week when he rambled his way into another demonstration that he’s not going to give up the title of Worst President Ever without a real fight.

This country has become so polarized that it’s almost astonishing…. Not only with the red and blue states… President Obama suffers from the most polarized situation in Washington that we have ever seen – even maybe than the time of Abraham Lincoln and the initiation of the war between the states.

I can’t even find the worst part of this quote. On one hand Carter thinks we’re more divisive now than when we were killing each other to the tune of over 600,000. On the other, he thinks that this unprecedented situation, worse than when we were burning American cities to the ground, is almost astonishing. What, pray tell, would completely astonish the old coot — Republicans digging up the Democratic dead and defiling the corpses while reciting sections of “A Time for Choosing”? No, I expect he’d see that and mutter “I knew it” under his breath as he shuffled his way to another “America Sucks” coffee and chat with some random tinpot tyrant.

Remember, folks, this is the guy who once declared the greatest nation on the face of the Earth so hard that it put us into a deep funk that only eight years of Ronald Reagan could cure. I don’t expect him to become Little Jimmuh Sunshine in his dotage, but I do expect him to be less an America-hating dolt.
