Obama Laughs At Your Exhaustion. Laughs From His White House.
Yesterday, the President, who has seen his approval ratings drop so far that he can see Sarah Palin from his own backyard, held a town hall meeting. He hoped, I suppose, that he could drum up a bit good press and a couple helpful soundbytes on a friendly network in front of a friendly crowd. Well, the meeting generated a sound byte all right, but it wasn’t quite what he expected. A lady, who identified herself as an ardent defender of the President, stood to beg him to give her some reason to get up off the mat and keep fighting for the HopeyChangey Express.
I’m a chief financial officer for a veterans service organization and that’s here in Washington. I’m also a mother, I’m a wife, I’m an American veteran, and I’m one of your middle-class Americans.
Quite frankly, I’m exhausted. Exhausted of defending you, defending your administration, defending the man for change I voted for, and deeply disappointed with where we are right now. I’ve been told that I voted for a man who said he was going to change things in a meaningful way for the middle class. I’m one of those people and I’m waiting, sir, I’m waiting. I don’t feel it yet. While I thought it wouldn’t be a great measure, I would feel it in some small measure. I have two children in private school, and the financial recession has taken an enormous toll on my family. My husband and I joked that we thought we were well beyond the hot dogs and beans era of our lives. And quite frankly, it’s starting to knock on our door and ring through that that might be where we’re headed.
And quite frankly, Mr. President, I need you to answer honestly, is this my new reality?
The President’s response? He laughed. I wish I was kidding about that but, as God is my witness, when she said she was exhausted from defending him and disappointed with the job he’s done so far, he actually blew it off as some sort of joke.
That poor lady deserved better. She, like a lot of Americans, are dead serious. They want President Obama to give them serious, honest answers to their questions and, thus far, he’s responded with boilerplate progressive claptrap and disdain. Or, as happened at the town hall meeting, they got a wandering, stream-of-consciousness rap that included a handful of talking points and the occasional half-truth but about as much substance as a helium-filled Twinkie snack cake.
