Staggering Confusedly Past the Graveyard
Poor Joe Conason, writing at Real Clear Politics, is sorely confused this morning. Let’s see if we can help him out.
Among the very puzzling aspects of the midterm election — and the Democratic debacle that appears to be looming in November — is why voters would return the opposition to power only two years after the multiple disasters of the Bush administration.
Yep, that’s a puzzler all right. Moe Lane has a possible answer but let me suggest another one. Democrats have not sold their programs as much as they’ve held down the American people and shoved them down our collective throat. Americans hate to be bullied and when they are, their reflex will be to kick back hard. In the case of the administration, you’ll get a historic set of polls leading toward what could be a set of elections so disastrous the Democrats may need a generation to recover.
Earlier this year and flushed with success in Congress, the Democrats were confidently whistling past the graveyard. Nowadays, the cocky walk has become a confused bumble. In a couple months? Well, they’ll be lucky to be upright at all by then.

People forget the Dems have controlled congress since Jan 2007. So, it will be four years, not two.
I have data to show that startlingly few people in 2008 realized who controlled Congress at that point.
