Amanpour Begins Her Time as Hard-Hitting Host By Giving Pelosi a Hard-Hitting Tongue-Bath
The Christiane Amanpour era began at ABC this weekend as the long-time CNN international talking head took over the network’s This Week Sunday pundit show from Jake Tapper. Tapper had done a very good job running the show and has been popular inside the network. Save for his choice of panel guests (which always slanted hard to the left), I’ve never had a serious issue with any of his work on the show.
Amanpour, on the other hand, is shaping up to be a veritable gulf oil spill of bias and outright falsehood. She wasted no time buttering up her first interview subject, Nancy Pelosi. After some perfunctory opinions on the war in Afghanistan masked as questions, she let us know just how it’s going to be at This Week. Here’s one of the journalistic marshmallows she lofted at the Dumbest Speaker in the history of the House.
Let me ask you about the midterm elections. You, by all accounts, are one of the most, if not the most, powerful and successful Speakers in the history of the United States. You’ve passed so much legislation. The President was elected with a significant majority. You had control of both houses of Congress. And yet, now, people are talking about you might lose your majority in the House. The gap seems to be growing wider between what’s achieved and what’s making an impact with the people. How did this happen?
[Emphasis mine]
Not only was her little apple-polishing act ridiculously inappropriate for a news interview, it is not true. Not “all” accounts consider Pelosi the Most Super Awesome Speaker EVAH. Indeed, many accounts, including the account being kept by the American people thinks she’s been doing a rotten job. This CBS poll taken back in March shows America rates Pelosi’s thinks less of Pelosi than it does of the Left-wing Bogeyman Rush Limbaugh (who, you might recall, was the focus of a White House smack-talking campaign). The view from Gallup isn’t much better.
Amanpour once boasted, “[n]obody knows my biases”, but she’s done as poor a job hiding them as she did masking her progressive propaganda as objective reporting in her Pelosi interview. Lucky for her PolitiFact only goes over what the show’s guests say (and even then, they have their own fact-checking issues). If they turned their attention to the show’s host, they’d need to hire some extra staff to handle the load.
