I have no doubt that the essence of the story is true, they hinted (I doubt they&#039;d be so tacky to say it outright) that if he dropped out they&#039;d take care of him. That sort of stuff happens all the time in party politics. It&#039;s one of the dichotomies of the system; candidates have to be loyal to both their constituents and party and sometimes that creates conflicts.
My point is twofold; all parties do it and they do it in such a way it can never really be proven.
