Well, At Least He Knows About Ignoring the Rules
The unconstitutional “deem and pass” gambit died a quiet death today, which is a good sign. At least a significant number of Democrats still have enough respect for the Constitution not to blow a three-foot wide hole in it. But let’s not assume that the Democratic leadership are going to play by the rules to get what they want. The crook Alcee Hastings, leading member of the House Rules Committee and chair of the Legislative and Budget Process Subcommittee, let that cat out of the bag this afternoon.
I wish that I had been there when Thomas Edison made the remark that I think applies here: “There ain’t no rules around here, we’re trying to accomplish something.” And therefore, when the deal goes down, all this talk about rules, we make them up as we go along.
Then again, I don’t expect much in the way of rules-following from Hastings. He has a habit of only obeying the rules he wants to obey, especially when it comes to soliciting bribes and abusing his power.
