The Democrats’ Kangaroo Court

| February 24, 2010 | Comments (0)

This week, two Congressional committees are holding hearings on the alleged accelerator problems with Toyota vehicles. Combined, 59 Democrats sit on these panels, which command enough power to fatally cripple the company by seriously restricting its ability to sell cars in the United States. Here’s the kicker. Of those 59 Democrats, 31 have received campaign contributions from the United Auto Workers union.

Why does that matter? I’ll let Mark Tapscott explain.

Because the UAW is a major stockholder of Toyota’s top U.S. rival, General Motors. Also, Toyota has successfully resisted UAW attempts to organize the Japanese firm’s estimated 31,000 assembly line workers employed in five plants here in America.

Coincidentally, Toyota sales are down and GM sales are up.

This, folks, is blatant corruption. What makes it worse is that the Democratic Congressmen are also majority stockholders. In fact, if you combine their ownership stake in the company with the UAW’s stake, these Democrats represent 77.5 percent of the company.

Now here’s the really big question. Let’s assume that Toyota is entirely guilty of all the dirty dealing for which they’ve been blamed. Assume they knew of the accelerator flaw and deliberately covered it up. Heck, assume they did it on purpose. How, exactly, is that the business of the Federal government?

We have a court system which job it is to determine fault and grant compensation to the victims (assuming Toyota is guilty). The Federal government has no business at all sticking its nose into this situation. And don’t give me static about interstate commerce. We already have laws we can apply to this. More laws will not remedy the situation, nor will they ensure that it won’t happen again. The only thing Congress can do is to punish Toyota which by definition will give an advantage to General Motors. Toyota is right in the middle of a kangaroo court the Democratic Party would not tolerate if they weren’t in power.

These 31 Democratic Congressmen need to recuse themselves from the hearings immediately. Clearly they have two blindingly obvious conflicts of interest. Better yet, they should call off the hearings altogethe.gen
