Funny, Pam Tebow Doesn’t Look Like Beelzebub.

You may have heard this week about the controversy surrounding an advertisement that will air during the Super Bowl tonight. Focus on the Family paid CBS a king’s ransom to put a pro-life commercial by Pam and Tim Tebow on during the game.

Here’s the gist of the commercial. Pam’s doctor recommended she get an abortion when she was pregnant with Tim due to medications she was taking after becoming ill on a missions trip to the Philippines. She refused and had her son, who went on to be a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback and, by all accounts, a darned decent man.

That story seems to be more than the pro-abortion crowd can handle. A spokesman for a coalition of pro-abortion groups called the ad an attempt to use sports “to divide rather than to unite” and demanded that CBS not air the ad. NARAL, not surprisingly, said the ad was an attempt to “take options away from women”.

Here’s the commercial. Judge for yourself whether it is divisive. It seems pretty darned tame to me.

I do realize my use of the term “pro-abortion” is inflammatory. I intend it to be that way. Given what the ad actually says, I find the protests against it every bit as inflammatory. What the ad is saying doesn’t match what groups like NARAL say it is but that doesn’t matter because any message of choice that doesn’t put abortion at the top of the list can not be allowed. But let’s be clear here. Pam Tebow making a very simple point, that allowing a child to be born is a better choice than aborting it. She’s not demanding an abortion ban. She’s not taking anything away from anyone. She is suggesting a choice. But that’s not a choice groups like NARAL and Planned Parenthood want women to make because they have a vested interest in that message being heard at little as possible. Fewer abortions mean less money for the people whose profession is to ensure abortion remains the most publicly pushed “choice”. They don’t want women to choose. They want women to choose abortions.
