Remember, It’s “Guilty Before Proven…Wait…What?”

The President has done it again. He’s managed to throw two conflicting messages at me in such a way that the rational part of my brain can’t do much more than bat them around like a kitten with a ball of catnip-scented yarn before giving up with an exasperated sigh.

Here’s the deal. According to the administration, it is the purest barbarism to keep Khalid Sheikh Mohammd safe and warm at Guantanamo Bay until such time as hostilities with his comrades have come to an end. Civilized people just don’t do that. Instead, we must haul him in front of a civilian jury to show the world that we are noble people willing to give even a confessed enemy a fair and impartial trial before we execute him like the murderous dog he is because “Failure is not an option”.

How do those two ideas go together, exactly? More importantly, how in the world is it appropriate for the President and his Attorney General, the two guys at the tippy-top of the law enforcement pyramid in this country, to promise victory as push back against the stunning “WhaHUH??” the country gave them when they announced this bone-headed plan? If KSM were anyone else, his defense attorneys would have swamped the presiding judge with a wave of motions to dismiss the case that would make the wave that capsized the Poseidon look like a ripple in a mud puddle.

Of course, this case doesn’t have a presiding judge yet, since the administration had itself a stroke of pure genius a couple of days ago, so the tsunami of dismissal motions is still very likely to happen. Don’t be surprised if the judge lets him walk because President Super Genius and his Crony Wonder couldn’t help but talk trash to help their own political fortunes.

What brought this to mind today? Robert Gibbs, who is to White House Spokesmen what Pants on the Ground Guy is to the Three Tenors, decided to dance the President’s Victory Dance on CNN. I guess since he was on friendly ground, it couldn’t hurt to strut what little stuff he has.

Why do I get the feeling the plan from Obama and Holder is to let KSM walk?
