Aside from Zombie Reagan, What Better Endorsement Could a Freedom-Minded Candidate Get?
I don’t really know much about Adam Andrzejewski, except that he’s one of a gaggle of Republicans vying to become the next Governor of Illinois and that’s he is reportedly a pretty solid conservative. Well, okay. That’s not true. I also know Andrzejewski isn’t a close buddy of Barack Obama and he wasn’t impeached for trying to sell political favors to the Obama administration Chicago machine-style.
However, if Nobel Peace Prize winner and former President of Poland Lech Walesa is not only endorsing him but coming across continents to help campaign for him, he’s aces with me. Walesa knows a few things about freedom and the sort of work it takes to ensure that people remain free. If he’s for Andrzejewski, we’d be dunderheads not to pay closer attention.
That said, how dispiriting must it be to have your challenger bring in someone of Walesa’s magnitude? There aren’t many people still alive who carry as much weight around the world as the man who was right there with a crowbar prying the Soviet Union off Poland’s throat. You could make a very good argument that Poland’s freedom was the first major crack in the USSR and that Walesa deserves to be named with the likes of Reagan and Thatcher as most instrumental in bringing about its downfall.
And now he’s come to Illinois. Will it make a different? Well, the state certainly has had worse elected officials. It’d do the voters credit if they put someone in higher office who wasn’t a crook, a crony, or a con man. Perhaps if they listen to what Walesa has to say, they’ll make a good start toward putting the shameful elections of the past behind them.
