The idea is good in theory, but I would say that they would need at least 30 minutes to get their thoughts out in a way that the American people could understand and agree with.
The idea is definitely intriguing though. Each one could take one of Obama's main topic issues (e.g. health care, the economy and cap and trade) and discuss a Conservative rebuttal to how the Democrats want to do it. I love the idea, now if they only had more time to do.
btw Chemosh, I would argue that Republicans are not more than a party for old fossils. The Mainstream Media wants you to think that, but if you got out and did grassroots, you'd find there are a lot of conservative young people. I am 24 years old and very heavily into my local politics and I know a lot of young Republicans. I have 298 high school and college friends on Facebook, I'd say that at least 95% of them are conservative with a few Libertarians and just left of center liberals.

As much as I'd love to see a round-table discussion, 15 minutes isn't enough time to convey any amount of direction and rebuttal to what the President may say. I'm pretty sure you and I were looking at two different campaigns. Also, the ill-informed Palin-basing didn't help you either.

I was with you, Chemosh, until you said that McCain was "sucking up" to Pat Robertson. True the older folks get the more conservative they get (I am 53!) but it takes energy and working out of the box to make the nation great. I loved McCain till he started sucking up to the dinosaurs like Focus on the Family, Pat Robertson and their ilk. It was so distressing. And I like brains not beauty to run a country. I will be honest ..Palin looks great on the outside but just a scatch of the surface and there is no way in hell I want that woman anywhere near the Nuclear Arsenal or even worse THE FED!

I would hope the Republicans can find a way to be more than a party for old fossils afraid of everything. My intent here is for the GOP to keep putting their ideas where people can see them. I agree with you that they spend too much time being negative. Then again, so does the President, but I'm not interested in helping him get his message out. I hope he fails and all that. ;)

It's not really a matter of gathering a new audience. Life tends to drive people to conservatism over time. <img

The conservative public has a long history of being behind the curve in gathering new audiences.
Personally, whenever I hear a speech from a conservative Republican I want to turn the channel. They use tired phrases like "big government." That truly don't make any sense, because Rarely do they actually discuss their possibly-productive ideas, instead of using tired rhetoric to bring down the opposing view.
I genuinely want to hear ideas. I think most in-tuned people do - even us liberals.

Well, Jimmie … despite our inherent ideological, ontological, AND political differences <img

I'm not opposed to an audience, but that would take even more time to set up (security, etc.).

The roundtable provides that sort of reactions from the participants, I think. The reason Jindal was so bad was because it was just basically talking to a camera with no audience feedback like The President had during his speech. Its hard to be impressive without those cues that you get when you are looking at another living person and seeing how they are reacting.

What they need is an Audience.
