Hollywood, If You Must Make Another Vampire Movie, Try This Book.
Like Glenn Reynolds, I think we’re pretty much vampired-out at this point, but I would probably pony up for a ticket if they made The Dracula Tape into a movie. I think we’d be more likely to see The Holmes-Dracula File
on the big screen before that one, though given the box-office success of the Sherlock Holmes movie out there now.
If Hollywood wants to keep on cashing in on the verminous bloodsuckers, the next vampire book that should hit the big screen, is Barbara Hambly’s Those Who Hunt the Night. I remember reading it quite a few years ago and it’s stuck with me as one of the better vampire books I’ve ever read. Hambly actually took the time to do something interesting with the various vampire myths and wove them into the story as actual characters whose vampirism was more than a group of superpowers. If you can find it for a reasonable price, at your local library, or in the collection of one of your more geekish friends, I recommend it.
UPDATE: Moe Lane tentatively endorses Daybreakers. His review is pretty much what I expected, which is disappointing, because the premise is redolent with good storytelling potential.
