Benson Sings Christmas!
Last year, I wrote about my favorite Christmas song, “Oh Holy Night” and linked to the two best renditions of the song I’d ever heard. That post became one of the most-read posts I’ve ever written, which surprised me a bit. I didn’t expect it to resonate quite as well.
I also didn’t expect that so many folks would comment about how much they loved the version of the song done by Robert Guillaume on the show Benson. I didn’t watch the show very often, so I didn’t know anything about it. Heck, I didn’t even know it existed before last year and since it wasn’t in any of the usual video places like YouTube or Vimeo. I pretty much had to take their word, their very insistent word, that it was a powerful and moving performance.
Not any more, though! I got a comment a couple of months ago from someone who had uploaded the whole show clip to YouTube, where it remains today. I’ve watched it a few times and darned if my commenters last year weren’t exactly right. It is a very powerful performance, and as beautifully-sung as any Christmas carol you will ever hear in your life. Stick through the more pedestrian cast carols to get to the good stuff. Enjoy.
UPDATE: Sorry about that, folks. I knew better than to use the handy media insertion tool WordPress provides me. It’s all better now.

That was great but you should also hear his Ave Maria. I heard him sing it years ago on TV but can not find it anywhere now.
It brought tears to my eyes again. It was sewing Christmas outfit and heard Benson sing that song. I was so moved by it. So many years later I feel the Christmas spirit and the special reason for the season
