“For the money, for the glory, and for the fun… mostly for the money.”
I read a couple excellent pieces over the weekend at the Big Hollywood site about the movie “Smokey and the Bandit” and the two men who made the movie happen: Hal Needham and Burt Reynolds. I admit, I didn’t expect to be particularly interested in the stories, but Leo Grim did a heck of a job telling a good story in a relatively short space. Though it’s been a long while since I’ve seen the movie, I remember it as fun to watch. That alone puts it miles above just about every movie made in 2009. Now that I know some of the backstory, I’d like to watch it a couple more times. I’ve a feeling it could end up in my DVD collection.
The first piece on Hal Needham is here and the second on Burt Reynolds is here. I think you’ll like how Grim tied the two pieces together by weaving the story of the relationship between the two men through both. Good stuff on a good movie.
(FYI, if you click that movie link and buy the DVD, I get a little bit of the purchase. Pretty good deal, I say.)
