Why is Mike Huckabee’s Political Career Like the Christmas Goose?
I think it’s safe at this point to call Mike Huckabee’s political career, at least on the national level, completely cooked. I’ve not touched on the story of Maurice Clemmons and the clemency granted to him by then-Governor Huckabee (though Stacy McCain has written several pretty comprehensive posts on it and I encourage you to visit his site to read up on it if you want to know more) but I found this Greenroom post from Slublog a very good summary of why you shouldn’t see Mike Huckabee’s face on the national campaign trail again.
The brief rundown is that Huckabee let his religious conviction run far, far ahead of his intelligence, God-given common sense, and virtually every prosecutor in Arkansas. That’s not to say that religious people shouldn’t be involved in national politics, but that religious people need to guard against letting what they think they know become disconnected with what they’re being told by almost everyone around them.
Also, it’s helpful if you’re not being a jerk while wielding your piety.
