The Motley CRU’s Twenty-Year Fraud

The climate change fraud story may be reaching a denouement, with a story that drives an ash stake right through the heart of the notion that the climate change apostles were doing anything remotely resembling real science.

First, though, let me recommend this Mark Steyn column and this post from Stacy McCain as needed correctives to the general harrumphery from those whose fortunes and ambitions rely on manmade AGW being a world-ending crisis.

Now to the ash stake. The UK’s Times Online reported Sunday that the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit has admitted to trashing all the raw weather station data it ever had. All it has left are the adjusted data, what the CRU’s director Phil Jones calls the “value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data”. In other words, it is not impossible for anyone go back and check the CRU’s findings because the CRU destroyed the real, unaltered data. We can not assume the data that still exists is valid because we have no way to check whether the CRU’s assumptions were correct when they applied them to the raw data.

In other words, there is no valid evidence that widespread, enduring, man-made global warming is occurring at a level that would warrant the actions the United Nations, the progressive left, the environmental lobby, the MSM, and “green corporations” poised to make millions, and Al Gore have demanded from us.

That’s not the worst part of the story though. Buried in the Times Online story is this:

Jones was not in charge of the CRU when the data were thrown away in the 1980s, a time when climate change was seen as a less pressing issue. The lost material was used to build the databases that have been his life’s work, showing how the world has warmed by 0.8C over the past 157 years.

Did you get that? Not only is there no valid data to back up the CRU’s findings, there hasn’t been any such data for twenty years. They threw the data away long before Jones and the rest of the CRU ever concocted their global warming scam. Did you know this? Did anyone outside East Anglia University know this? Did any so-called scientist working at the Climate Research Unit ever think to drop this little fact on anyone?

Of course not, because they second word got out that their findings were based on data that no one could ever verify, they’d lose every ounce of celebrity their panicmongering had brought them. They wouldn’t be well-funded international rock stars nobly trying to save the planet anymore, capable of commanding the attention of world leaders, wealthy businessmen, and the global media. They’d just be a bunch of run of the mill government research scientists churning out necessary but not-terribly-exciting findings every once in a while.

Phil Jones, Michael Mann, and the rest of the motley assemblage of anti-science fanatics who have pushed this lie down our throats are frauds. They have used their grand lie to slander good people, pillage hundreds of millions of dollars from our pockets, and enrich themselves. Their deception should be a major news story (and it should entirely kill the disastrous cap and trade proposal) but, as Melissa Clouther notes, the MSM has no real interest in covering it because they are coreligionists with the Motley CRU.
