Conservatism Doesn’t Need One Leader, Because It Has Millions

Zo is right on the money.

I’ve been saying this for a while now. It’s not enough to whack the President’s totalitarian policies, though they are eminently whackable. We conservatives have to start showing people exactly how conservative economic and social policies work in the real world.

Don’t get me wrong. We should say “no” to every single thing the progressives want to do — loudly, forcefully, and without a second’s hesitation. William Buckley did not build a conservatism to stand athwart history whispering “slow down a little bit, please, if you wouldn’t mind”. However, every time we knock down a chunk of progressive twaddle, we have to have be able to say “that won’t work, but this will, and here’s how”.

Political leaders can’t really do that in a way that’ll stick. We have to make that happen, with our own friends and family and in our communities. If we’re going to push back the tide of smothering government, we’re going to have to show folks how conservatism really works ourselves.
