The Dour Nuns of Newsweek Try to Solve the Palin Problem
Ed Driscoll catches Newsweek engaging in some Rule 5 action to move a few more copies off the newsstands. He notes that the magazine’s circulation is swirling the bowl and hasn’t gotten any better since it’s become The Barack Obama Butt-Smooching Weekly.
Keep in mind, as you read Newsweek’s headline that Maria wasn’t actually a problem. The nuns who groused about her free-spirited ways were a bunch of sticks in the mud who didn’t like that they couldn’t control Maria’s maverick nature. They didn’t like that she sang in the quiet places and climbed trees and didn’t comb her hair just so. In short, their problem with Maria wasn’t that she was a bad person, but that she didn’t meekly assume her place in the world as decided by her “betters”.
Kind of a curious position for a progressive MSM outlet to take toward a woman these days, don’t you think?

1) And don't forget the Mother Superior encourages Maria ['Climb Every Mountain!!!'] to pursue a life outside of the nunnery. She realizes Maria is not suited to be a Bride Of Christ, only some women are.
2) I posted that photo of Mrs. Palin several months ago and I'm still getting a good number of hits on it off images.google and Bing. Methinks I'm due to post some more [Gams In 2012!].
3) I didn't know Newsweek was still in business.
It really is a great photo, and I can't figure out what valid criticism one could level against it.
Well, I saw your Tweet and didn't want you to feel lonely for comments…so here goes.
Maria was a problem–in the convent. She was not a suitable candidate for the cloister.
Just like Sarah is not a suitable candidate (in the mind of the left wing MSM) for first woman president–she's everything the feminasties hate: a conservative woman, who doesn't believe in the sacrament of abortion, and who looks like she could win.
I have to say though, I'm puzzled by the criticism of the photo…I think she looks cute.
Thank you, Miss ISG
I saw a lot of conservatives posting that it was insulting that Newspeak recycled an old photo of her from Runner's World.
Perhaps there is a valid point, in that, it could be construed as an attempt to make her look less serious…but I think it's a reach. Plenty of other reasons to nail Newspeak. It's a nice picture of her, which is more than I can say for most of the photos they ran of GWB.
I think the criticism of the picture is valid if you view it through the mirror of what liberal regressives claim to really hate. After all aren't they the ones who have lectured us endlessly over the years about how judging woman on their appearance is sexist and indicates how men are just evil shallow creatures. Posting a Sexy Picture of a Woman is against everything they stand for. The picture is to indicate that the only reason Conservative people give any attention to Sarah Palin is because she is an attractive woman.
