Crisis in South Carolina: Graham May Have to Remove His Head from McCain’s Posterior.

| November 15, 2009 | Comments (5)

Jennifer Rubin couldn’t be any more spot-on with this post on how South Carolina is loving lukewarm senior Senator less and less each day.

This contradicts the favorite narrative of Democrats and their media handmaidens, namely that in order to stay relevant, Republicans must compromise with Obama, move leftward, and adopt policies at odds with conservative principles. It turns out that doing so alienates not only Republican voters but also independents, who themselves are not enamored of Obama’s leftist agenda.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: when you start chunking conservative principles over the side like they were bags of ballast in a hot air balloon, most voters are going to wonder what else you’ll throw away. At some point you have to find a few real principles and then you have to hold onto them no matter what. It’s not enough to follow John McCain around like a besotted teenager, brandishing your Squish Club membership card.

See, “Whatever John McCain wants” and “Whatever will piss off conservatives” aren’t principles. They’re political tactics and, as of now, they are big, fat losers.

UPDATE: Patterico has some very good thoughts on the wilting, yet arrogant Graham

  1. Lindsay "light in the loafers" Graham is RINO toast. SC needs another Jesse.

  2. RobAlloyIV says:

Graham is the pro typical Moderate that is suppose to be the model for winning elections and somehow making the illusionary Big Tent wider. All I have seen him do is drive people away.

You know those 'racists' who think following the laws on the books about illegal aliens should be enforced or those Typical 'Angry White Men' who think Cap and Trade will hurt the country or those 'Extremists' who think the Federal Government needs to be curtailed in their power and forced to obey the Constitution.

If Lindsey is the model for the Republican Party who does that actually leave in the Big Tent? Lets see Big Government, Big Taxes, Big Regulations, Big Law, Big Unions, Big Environuts.. I guess I am confused because that sounds a lot more like something a John Kerry Tent?

  3. The GOP needs to stop letting the MSM tell them who and what are the winning issues—they want us to lose!

Graham is a RINO maroon. If you want to find that winning big tent, take a Hard Right, and keep going.

  4. [...] has not stopped some of the conservative blogosphere to pick up this story as if it is fact. But we don’t know if this is true or not. It might be. But it could just be baseless [...]
