This is some Olympic-class snark from my friend Paula.
Really, the old saw, “Guns don’t kill people; people kill people” is one of the dumber things you can say in an argument about the propriety of firearms. Like Eddie Izzard says, “the gun helps, you know?”
Guns do kill people and, as it happens, they kill people quite easily, which is something we can not and should not ignore. However, that doesn’t mean guns should cause us to leap up on a chair and squeal like a cartoon housewife who’s just seen a mouse. If the number of people killed by guns in this country were equal to the amount of shrieking about guns killing people in this country, the bodies would be piled up like cordwood in the streets.
We could definitely do with a sense of moderation. And some more Paula parody.
