At Least He Gets Points for the Most Insane Assassination Theory I’ve Ever Seen

I’m not sure where Eric Boehlert learned his history, but whichever school it was should demand that he stop embarrassing them.

A President was killed the last time right-wing hatred ran wild like this

That being John F. Kennedy, who was gunned down in Dallas, of course.

I’ve been thinking a lot of Kennedy and Dallas as I’ve watched the increasingly violent rhetorical attacks on Obama be unfurled. As Americans yank their kids of class in order to save them from being exposed to the President of the United States who only wanted to urge them to excel in the classroom. And as unvarnished hate and name-calling passed for health care ‘debate’ this summer.

The radical right, aided by a GOP Noise Machine that positively dwarfs what existed in 1963, has turned demonizing Obama–making him into a vile object of disgust–into a crusade. It’s a demented national jihad, the likes of which this country has not seen in modern times.

But I’ve been thinking about Dallas in 1963 because I’ve been recalling the history and how that city stood as an outpost for the radical right, which never tried to hide its contempt for the New England Democrat.

Well, of course.

But at the risk of challenging the mighty intellect of Eric Boehlert, let me suggest that his novel theory strains the bounds of credulity. It does seem improbable that an entire city of alleged right-wing hatemongers would get beaten to the punch by a man who joined so closely to communism that he actually attempted to live in the Soviet Union and spent much of his time handing out leaflets excoriating Kennedy for the way he opposed Fidel Castro, doesn’t it?

However, let me congratulate Boehlert on his journalistic scoop. He has invented a Kennedy Assassination conspiracy theory that I have certainly never heard before, and I have watched, quite literally, dozens of television shows on the subject. They have blamed organized crime, international bankers, a communist conspiracy, the CIA, Lyndon Johnson, Fidel Castro, J. Edgar Hoover, E. Howard Hunt, Clay Shaw, or some combination thereof, but I have never heard, even from the most deranged conspiracy theorist the wild tale that Eric “Captain History” Boehlert is trying to sell.

So, points for originality there.

On the other hand, let me suggest that Eric Boehlert is not blazing a brave new trail through history but is just another Soros-paid hack who, desperate for a smear that hasn’t been employed a hundred times against the normal Americans who oppose the President’s radical policies, pulled this one out of his ass, confident that the sort of folks who normally read Media Matters would just buy in to his ridiculously insane recollection of history.

    *sigh*

And didn't the Democrats run Texas back then as well?

I'm afraid that Boehlert's madcap revision of history goes far beyond his hope that uninformed American's will buy into his wacko theory. Anyone paying attention must have noted by now that as more Americans are rejecting Obama and his fondest policy desires, the issue of assassination is being raised with much greater frequency. The liberals' first line of attack was that if you reject the President and his policies, you must be a racist. That didn't improve Obama's poll numbers, as his negatives are on the rise and the Tea Parties are growing larger, so the liberals have moved on to the next step; i.e., if you reject the President and his policies, you must be a planner or supporter of his assassination. The lefty blogs are replete with this reckless talk, and in essence, that was exactly what Nancy Pelosi was referencing in her tearful recollection of San Francisco-style politics this week. I am beginning to wonder if many liberals are seeing that as Obama and his ability to enact the left's agenda are slipping away, the only way to gain political dominance is to hope that he is assassinated by some right-wing extremist, thus giving them a campaign issue in 2010. There is no other logical reason for the fixation that the left has on the death of this president. In deliberately misconstruing political opposition into personal animus and death wishes, the left is in the process of backing themselves into a rhetorical corner. There is no place to go from here except to carry out the deed themselves and blame it on the right as they have done with many issues in the past. (Clinton blamed Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio for the Oklahoma City bombing.) I have heard not a single conservative express any desire to have this president harmed in anyway. The left cannot tolerate conservative confidence in defeating this administration politically, so they have to set-up the most heinous scenario possible to discredit an entire political philosophy. It is but another example that liberals/socialists place absolutely no value on human life and would rejoice in the sacrifice of one to achieve their political ends.

One would be hard pressed to call Dallas a "hotbed of conservatism" these days. Pick up the Dallas Morning News on any given day for evidence to the contrary. They've got all the municipal corruption that Chicago has, so don't talk down about Big D.

    And wasn't Oswald a fellow-traveler?

    Never mind…

  4. Kent says:

If Oswald were alive today, he'd be our executive pay czar, or a CA congressman, or a Columbia U professor.

  5. Ric Locke says:

Hmph. We've been talking all this time about Carter parallels. Boehlert does at least manage to point out that the Kennedy parallels are even stronger.

The assassination pr0n is a sign of desperation, folks.

    Regards,

    Ric
