Romeo and Juliet and Stirrup Pants and High Heels
“Romeo and Juliet” is, for my money, Dire Strait’s best song and easily its worst video. Yes, I’m including the odd video for “Walk of Life” that, for some reason not indicated by the song itself, included baseball blooper clips.
Seriously. If you can figure out how what’s happening in the video relates to the song’s lyrics, feel free to enlighten us in the comment section. My best explanation is that it was the 80s and incomprehensible videos that had only tangential links to the songs were all the rage.

It's challenging to match this video to the lyrics, all right; the song says Romeo is "lovestruck," in the video he seems "mildly interested." That makes him one step more romantic than Juliet, whose emotional state throughout appears to be "bored." In other words, the complete opposite of Shakespeare…
