And that's the real problem with the Republican system: the free market doesn't work in medicine. If it did, most of the hospitals here would be closed down. Any procedure that cost more than $7K is cheaper in Thailand. And that includes the flight and hotel fees. If the free market worked in medicine, nobody would ever get an elective procedure in America. It's so much cheaper elsewhere. So why do people pay ten times as much to stay here for it? Obviously, rational economic thought is not coming into play. There's this crazy belief that a doctor trained at Harvard is better than a doctor trained at Harvard. Which doctor is which? Well you tell me. I'll ask you the question: Doctor A or Doctor B, which is it? If you have preconditioned notions about the skin color of your doctor, then I'll tell you that doctor A has darker skin. So does that make him a lesser doctor? Well, in the minds of most Americans, yes. In my mind, it makes him a better bargain. He has the same training, but he costs less. Most white people won't trust a brown skinned doctor, so those doctors get paid less and work harder. That's why I want them. Better service, cheaper price. But you just want the white doctor, don't you?
