So really, Jimmie, tell me how the free market works. If it worked at all, we wouldn't have a medical system. Take out the most profitable patients, and our system collapses. The only reason it even exists is because people lack the information that other systems can perform much better on a cash basis. And on the crazy cash basis that they can compete with America with an insurance company providing 80% of the costs. Thailand can out-compete us when we subsidize the costs at 80%. Our system cannot possibly be efficient if that is true. And it is true. But it's all cool, I'm perfectly willing to travel to Thaliland for medical treatment. As good as the Cleveland Clinic is, it's still way overpriced. Given that people are obviously willing to pay ridiculously overpriced charges for medical care, I don't see how anyone can argue that the free market works in medical care. If you are getting medical care and you aren't in Thailand, you're just stupid. There is a free market in medical care and I do participate in it. That's why I go to Thailand. When medical care in the US can compare, I'll consider using it. Until then, I'll stick to Thailand.

"Given the free market, why would I even think of getting treatment in America?"

And that's the real problem with the Republican system: the free market doesn't work in medicine. If it did, most of the hospitals here would be closed down. Any procedure that cost more than $7K is cheaper in Thailand. And that includes the flight and hotel fees. If the free market worked in medicine, nobody would ever get an elective procedure in America. It's so much cheaper elsewhere. So why do people pay ten times as much to stay here for it? Obviously, rational economic thought is not coming into play. There's this crazy belief that a doctor trained at Harvard is better than a doctor trained at Harvard. Which doctor is which? Well you tell me. I'll ask you the question: Doctor A or Doctor B, which is it? If you have preconditioned notions about the skin color of your doctor, then I'll tell you that doctor A has darker skin. So does that make him a lesser doctor? Well, in the minds of most Americans, yes. In my mind, it makes him a better bargain. He has the same training, but he costs less. Most white people won't trust a brown skinned doctor, so those doctors get paid less and work harder. That's why I want them. Better service, cheaper price. But you just want the white doctor, don't you?

Got knocked out. Not surprising, conservatives never want to hear the truth. The truth is simple. I've paid into the private system and it never paid back. Now, they say they can't insure me. And sorry about that $100K we took from you, we're just thieves, so it's our nature. Yeah, that's nice, I'll feel great about that when I die. And I'd like to live to 60 years. That's a pipe dream, obviously. But it would be nice to see 50. And I will. I'll move to Thailand to get medical treatment. America simply cannot keep me alive. The system here is based in taking all the money from everything. The goal is to keep people alive long enough to wipe out their estate completely. The goal of our health care system is to suck out every last dollar a person has and then kill them. I will have nothing to do with this. The first sign of cancer, and I'm bailing on America. I'll go to a country where treatment is possible. And it doesn't matter whether I have insurance or not. It's cheaper to pay cash in Thailand than pay the copays in America. There's no way I'd even consider supporting the American system. It's just too expensive for really mediocre service. I can can better service in Thailand for 10% of the cost. Given the free market, why would I even think of getting treatment in America?
