You know how the constant drumbeat from the MSM and certain folks on the right who have gone all wobbly has been that all the loud town hall protesting is making people less inclined to listen to Obamacare opponents?

They’re wrong. Every last one of them.

The raucous protests at congressional town hall meetings have succeeded in fueling opposition to proposed health care bills among some Americans, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds — particularly the independents who tend to be at the center of political debates.

In a survey of 1,000 adults taken Tuesday, 34% say the sometimes heated protests at sessions held by members of Congress have made them more sympathetic to the protesters’ views; 21% say they are less sympathetic.

Independents by 2-1, 35%-16%, say they are more sympathetic to the protesters now.

In other words, when you respond to prevarication and weaseling with incredulous mockery and you demand that the people whose job it is to listen to you actually listen to you, you can pull people to your side.

I’m not exactly shocked by the poll results. It’s been pretty obvious that the more publicity the town hall protests get, the more people come out to join them at the next one.

There is a caveat, though. The protests have to be what they largely have been to this point — raucous, even angry, but not over the line into outright rudeness. The Democratic leadership has gone all-in on Obamacare. They’ve painted folks like you and me as the worst assortment of scum and villainy outside of Mos Eisely spaceport and we can’t give them the satisfaction of being right even once. Like Ace said, even if we jeer the answer, we should always allow for there to be an answer.

We can not repay churlishness with churlishness. However, that doesn’t mean we should return to the days of quiet complacence. We’ve raised our voices and are getting results. Let’s not change what’s working.
