The New Lord’s Prayer, Health Care Town Hall Meeting Edition
Our Father, who art in Washington
Progressive be thy name.
Thy Kingdom Come, Thy will be done
No matter what these mouth-breathing insurance company teabaggers say.
And while thy will is pretty cool and all, our will would be even better right about now. After all, if you didn’t want us to rule over these people, you wouldn’t have made us so scary smart, right?
Give us this day Nationalized Health Care
And forgive us our debts.
(No, seriously. Forgive us our debts because we’re swimming in red ink down here.
It seems that Thy Progressive Will is pretty darned expensive and those rick folks didn’t have quite as much money as they thought we did.
And your servant, Obama, kind of made this promise not to tax anyone but the really, really rich people. But he slid back on that, only they haven’t noticed quite yet. So if you could help blind their eyes to that we’d appreciate it.
And while you’re at it, see if you can get the Chinese to forgive us our debts, too.)

Lead us not into temptation
(Seriously, you can take it easy on that one. Chris Dodd and Kent Conrad, pretty much found that all by themselves, but we took care of that so we’re square, yes?)
But deliver us from evil. And by evil we mean these people who won’t shut up about freedom and reading the bill and whatever they’re all “blah, blah, blah” about.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.

May I please take this prayer to share at church on Sunday? After all, it's so much better and so much more up-to-date than that old one we've been using.
And I love that part about forgiving our debts, because heaven knows only the Lord himself will be able to get us out of debt of Obama and company keep spending as if money can just be pulled out of a "Monopoly" game. . .
By all means, take it with you. I take no responsibility for any mysterious bolts of lightning which should strike you out of a clear, blue sky, though.
