The Left is Yelling About Palin Because They’re Afraid. Again.

| July 5, 2009 | Comments (8)

How badly has Sarah Palin’s resignation rattled the progressive left?

Badly. Very, very badly.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it one more time: Sarah Palin scares the bejeezus out of the left. She is their very worst nightmare: an amazingly charismatic conservative who connects with huge swaths of the right (and more than a few on the left), an ardent protector of the unborn who has put her money where her mouth is (and believe me, the hate she engenders is as much about Trig as it is about anything), a consistent and proven winner who attacks problems (and political opponents) from unexpected angles, and a successful, attractive, unashamed woman.

The poo-flinging you’re seeing from the chattering classes is because Palin is now going where they won’t be able to see her every day. They won’t be able to keep her in their sights and that frightens them beyond measure, because they know she’s not finished (no matter how much they desperately want her to be). She’ll be back in politics and when she does come back, it’ll be in a way that very few can predict now.

Sarah Palin has just become the ultimate left-wing bogeyman and that, folks, is why they’re yelling about her so much.

The only downside to Sarah’s story this far is that the unhinged attacks from the left have driven normal people out of politics, so that what we’ll mostly get for the forseeable future are career political hacks, legacy hires, and flash in the pan celebrities. There’s still hope for those of us who crave a return to the days of citizen-politicians and Sarah Palin is a big part of that hope.

UPDATE: When she comes back, this would not be a bad path for her to take.

UPDATE 2: And now that she’s no longer constrained by the duties of a Governor, she can use both barrels on the left-wing smear machine. How about making a rape joke about her daughter now, Letterman?

Are you out of your damn mind? It's impossible to be afraid of a tall stack of hair. It's impossible to be afraid of someone who is unintentionally funny every time she opens her mouth. It's IMPOSSIBLE to be afraid of someone who calls herself a feminist, smears Hillary Clinton for "whining" about media scrutiny of female candidates, and then takes her ball and runs away crying about how everyone's so mean to her!

In addition—I don't believe that even *you* believe that the left is at fault for gotcha politics. You people started the foaming hate during the Clinton years, where no smear was too low to put forth. You reap what you sow. You and that bag of hammers named Sarah Palin.

Is it difficult to type when your hands are shaking so badly?

You can, if you like, bring me five serious attacks on Chelsea Clinton made during the 90s. I'll accept one Photoshop and one rape joke. If you can do that, then I'll start to take you seriously about the Clinton years.

I don't know about #3 on NYP TODO list.

"Remake the GOP" would need to be a radical makeover, indeed.

As that old bit of Southern engineering wisdom goes "y'all just can't polish a turd".

The Progressive collusion is pretty bad, and if she's too involved in the GOP, she's likely to become Yet Another Progressive Loser.

I'm pretty liberal, and I'm not afraid of Sarah Palin. Mostly, I don't care about her one way or the other. I think she would be the easiest of any Republican nominee for President Obama to beat in 2012.

Although I don't care about her much, I kind of dislike her. She seems mean-spirited and petty (I hated her Republican Convention speech). She does not seem intellectually curious. That doesn't make her a bad person, but it's not a very good recommendation to be President.

I know lots of people love her, and I think that's great.

  4. [...] Sarah Palin Resignation Jump to Comments Yesterday, I bought a newspaper that I usually don’t purchase, because Sarah Palin’s face was on it. I thought it would give greater insight to what all the hype was about. It didn’t. So I’m still confused – and slightly terrified… “I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it one more time: Sarah Palin scares the bejeezus out of the left. I am a liberal. I do NOT hate Sarah Palin.

I would point out one strange thing. Liberals often accuse Conservatives of being closet fascists who are afraid of Free Speech.

Cut to Sarah Palin's lawyer threatening Blogs and others, trying to take away people's right to say they think Sarah Palin is an idiot and a liar.

What is the reaction of way too many on the Right? They cheer this, as though they do not routinely make unprovable false allegations about Soros and ACORN and Obama.

They want to see Letterman sued for telling a joke, Andrew Sullivan sued for asking questions about Governor Palin's pregnancy. They mistakenly assume that the loser of a Civil Suit is imprisoned and make threats about anyone who criticizes their Messiah.

It is preposterous, anti-Democracy, and stupid. It is the behavior of would-be fascists and certain losers.

Somehow, when conservatives and Republicans today walk on the field, they know they will lose.

    It is pathetic.

    • Jimmie says:

Ah, yeah. I wondered when someone was coming to gripe about that.

Let's be clear. Palin's lawyer is not threatening free speech; but libelous speech (you know, the speech that's already against the law). In fact, the one person he's mentioned in particular is telling known falsehoods about Palin and continuing her harassment of the Governor. As far as Letterman goes, I'd say that a rape joke aimed at a minor child is something decent human beings would want none of, but it's nice to see you defending it.

As for the rest, can the woudned dove act. It's laughable.

  6. fostert says:

Afraid? Please Jimmie. If we had anything to fear from her, she'd be Vice President now. Except she'd probably quit that, too. I wish she didn't quit, because she'd be a super easy target for Obama. Like she was last election. During the election, you accused me of whistling past the graveyard when I ridiculed her. Who's whistling now?

As for the libel stuff, libel is really hard to prove in court. And even printing factually incorrect information doesn't reach the standard. It also has to be knowingly and with legal malice. Even the lunatics who still accuse Hillary of murder don't reach that standard. There's no case there, which is why Ms Moore remains defiant.
