David Letterman’s Biggest Problem is Named Cynthia
Cynthia Yockey wants a chunk of David Letterman’s hide and, by goodness, I think she’s going to get it. If you’re one of the folks who didn’t accept Letterman’s feeble and incompetent apology, you’ll definitely want to join Cynthia in putting even more pressure on the companies with ads on his show.
I’ve already had a couple rather animated Twitter conversations on this subject with folks who think that we should simply accept Letterman’s apology and let it lie. That’s exactly the wrong answer. When did we accept that an apology was a “get our of consequences free” card, anyhow? When you were a kid, and you broke a neighbor’s window with a baseball, saying “I’m sorry” wasn’t the end of it. You had to pay for the window.
Well, Letterman did a lot worse than break a window. I’m not all that inclined to let him get off easy and though I’m not going after him myself, I’m sure as heck not going to stand in the way of the folks who will.
But there’s a bigger aspect to this story I think a lot of conservatives are ignoring. Smitty gets into it a bit in this post.
Conservatives: in other than a handful of very narrow religious cases, I can recall scant evidence of “us” ever doing much to influence the culture. Lousier and lousier movies and shows come out, and there is some muttering, but little in the way of tangible feedback. Certainly, the world needs no more Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson “action figures” running around like solutions in search of problems. However, there is plenty of need for sincere, honest, positive leadership to alter the course of society back in the direction of simple courtesy.
That’s not going to happen unless we take a couple scalps. So, go right ahead, Cynthia, and take as big a chunk out of Letterman as you can. Maybe the next guy will think twice before he makes a crude “joke” about a Republican politician’s child.

You seem to be taking a position I consider reasonable.
On the other hand, they don't insult muslims.
Maybe there's a time to stop being reasonable. It's going to take some consideration.
