So I'm not entirely keen on this. But what's rare in this case is that there's an Angel in the details. That detail is that the government plan MUST cover me at minimal additional costs. That works for me. I keep healthy and am not a big risk. Except for genetic predisposition to a lot of cancers and a neck that is so messed up that few doctors believe I can walk. But those two issues make it impossible for me the get insurance from anyone but extremely expensive specialty insurers. And they want $75K a year.
If the government can insure me, I'll gladly take that. And take me to the VA for care, they do good work. Easier than flying to Thailand. And you get American service! Well, don't get too excited. The American doctors are a little better than the Thai. But the Thai nurses are the best in the world. And, no, they don't give "special services." Once a Thai women can make a legitimate living, she'll keep doing it. Yeah, she'll do her best to marry up, but she'll settle like everyone else. At least she isn't sleeping with stinky Americans anymore (that's how you pay for nursing school). We smell like beef and cheese, and they hate those smells. The stinky comment is literal, and it takes months of a different diet to change it.

My current plan is the "Fly to Thailand when You Get Sick" plan.
