Shorpy’s Picture of the Week
I love this picture, which comes from the wonderful guys at Shorpy. In my imagination, there are guys with jetpacks and goggles flying from the airship toward a square-chinned hero with twin .45 pistols and a jetpack of his own who is ready to launch himself from the Capitol dome to save our great nation from yet another Evil Menace.
In reality, the craft is the Graf Zeppelin and the year was 1928. You have to wonder if, 20 years later, a certain mustachioed dictator would have loved to see that same tableau with an entirely different flag flying in the foreground.
What a difference a few years makes.
