I’d Call it a Journalistic Scandal, but It Involves Maureen Dowd

| May 17, 2009 | Comments (0)

Maureen Dowd guilty of plagiarism? Well, color me shocked nigh unto death. I didn’t think there was a limit to how many times someone could write a column based around the theme “ZOMG! Dick Cheney is teh suck!”

Apparently, though, Dowd’s well ran dry and she had to snag a whole paragraph from fellow lefty Josh Marshall and his appropriately-named Talking Points Memo blog.

I wonder why the editors at the Times didn’t pick up on it. I mean, that paragraph was a whole multi-phrase sentence where she didn’t commit an unspeakable assault on a pop culture reference. Surely that had to raise suspicions.

UPDATE: Simon Owens got statements from Josh Marshall and the TPM blogger who broke the story. They’re both pretty non-committal, which is about what I’d expect.

UPDATE 2: Is it time to say good-bye to Maureen? I’m not all that sure. Who else can the Times get for mostly content-free snark from a left-wing point of…

…never mind.

Yeah, this might be good-bye.
