Nancy Pelosi is About to Learn that Lies Make A Poor Fallout Shelter

asteroid-impactThe Pelosi saga rolls on with yet another story about What Nancy Knew and When She Knew It. For those of you keeping track, this is now the fifth time she’s changed her story. So far, these are the stories she’s used:

1) I knew nothing about waterboarding.
2) I knew about waterboarding, but not that they were going to do it.
3) Okay, my top national security aide was fully briefed but I was just told. Jane Harman wrote a concerned memo with which I fully agreed but didn’t say anything because I respect the government “channels” too much.
4) The CIA told me sweet, sweet lies. They lied to Congress, too.

So here’s the new story and, I have to say, it’s the best one yet.

According to Pelosi today, it wasn’t the CIA who lied to her but the Bush administration. Because that CIA briefer who identified himself in the meetings as a CIA briefer was really Scooter Libby in disguise, I guess.

“We all share great respect for the dedicated men and women of the intelligence community who are deeply committed to the safety and security of the American people. My criticism of the manner in which the Bush Administration did not appropriately inform Congress is separate from my respect for those in the intelligence community who work to keep our country safe. What is important now is to be united in our commitment to ensuring the security of our country; that, and how Congress exercises its oversight responsibilities, will continue to be my focus as we move forward.”

Let’s go back to her press conference, where Ace finds the quote that put the lie to her newest fantasy.

But she said yesterday, clearly:

Q: Madame Speaker, just to be clear, you are accusing the CIA of lying to you in September 2002?

A: Yes, of misleading the Congress of the United States. Misleading the Congress of the United States.

Seems like San Fran Nan just noticed the shadow of that giant document hammer coming down on her and she’s trying frantically to get out of the impact zone. Unfortunately for her, the CIA seems to have her very firmly in its sights.

Both Donald Douglas and William Jacobson believe it’s time for her to step down. For the health of the Democratic Party, I agree. But as a conservative, I think she should stick in there just as long as she possibly can. Every new, feeble lie she tells only damaged the progressive movement and makes the previous six years of anti-war demagoguery look inane.

I know this is very Sopranos/hollywood. But I can't help but imagine her getting a late night phone call with a lot of clicks in the background and a deep voice asking "are you really sure you want to pursue this course of action blaming the CIA"? This led her to change her story lol.

    BUSTED.

    That is all.

While I agree that it is delicious fun watching "Nuancy" twist in the wind, my gut tells me after skimming left blogs that many Democrats are revolted by her actions right now, too. Many are irritated with her lying but more think she is obstructing either or both the truth commissions/Chicago Slim and his agenda.

Question: Is there someone in the House who would actually be a worse nightmare as Speaker for Republicans/Blue Dogs than Nan? If not, strike while the iron is hot and get Pelosi the heck out of Congress while the momentum is on our side.

Politically, I think it's best if Pelosi continues for a while as Speaker. She's been serially incompetent pretty much from Day One. Under her reign, Congress' approval levels have dropped to historic lows and have largely stayed there for years. Someone with more intelligence, like Steny Hoyer, would do better just by being there. Then again, so would a pet rock.

Okay, then we put Nanccy Pelosi on trial for war crimes right alongside Dick Cheney, George W., Donald Rumsfeld, Condi Rice, and about 10 or 15 others. Works for me.

  5. Boyd says:

"Okay, then we put Nancy Pelosi on trial for war crimes right alongside Dick Cheney …"

By all means, lets dispense with any determination of whether any crimes were even committed and go straight to the show trial, eh comrade.

"… and about 10 or 15 others. Works for me."

Oh, you mean like these Democrats pounding their drums on the march to war? No, I didn't think you meant that. I mean why have any integrity when pure ideological partisan assault is so much more productive.
