No, Senator Cornyn, I Don’t Want What You’re Smoking
I don’t know what premium bud John Cornyn smoked this morning, but he really should give it up. It makes him do some really dumb stuff like endorse Florida Governor Charlie Crist for the Senate.
I am pleased today to endorse Governor Charlie Crist for the United States Senate. With his record of reform in Florida, I know that Governor Crist will bring a fresh perspective to Washington in our efforts to fight for lower taxes, less government, and new job creation for all Americans.
That’d all be very nice except for one little thing. When we last saw Charlie Crist, he was busy hugging President Obama and telling us how badly we needed to have the so-called Stimulus Bill. Before that, he was running private insurance companies out of the state and pushing the global warming alarmists big government policies on his state. Don’t even get me started on his key endorsement of John McCain that essentially handed the Presidency to Barack Obama.
I don’t know what John Cornyn sees in Crist, but it’s not the same thing I see. I’ve know what “lower taxes, less government, and new job creation” looks like, and it’s nothing like what Charlie Crist has been doing in Florida nor like what he pushed on rest of the country just a couple months ago. Apparently, we’re to believe he’ll suddenly turn conservative the second he hits Washington, DC just because John Cornyn gave him big love. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I find it insulting that Cornyn thinks we could be that stupid.
Not quite a month ago, we Americans gave our opinion of politicians like Crist. Tens of thousands of Floridians turned out, in the middle of a work week, in places like Orlando, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Meyers, Naples, and elsewhere around the state to protest the very same big government, big spending, ridiculously irresponsible behavior that Charlie Crist enthusiatically endorsed.
But never mind all that. The Republican party leaders have fallen under the delusion that if they can just run some candidates who are moderate, whatever the hell that word means, the GOP will get control of Congress again and everything will be lovely. The only problem with his theory is that big-government Republicans like Crist already had control of Congress once. Their bloated budgets, reluctance to pull back the grasping hands of government, and desire to please the MSM by being “moderate” put them in the situation they’re in now. Going back to that isn’t exactly what I’d call a genuis strategy.
If John Cornyn really wants to get the majority back, there’s only one way. He’s going to have to stop listening to the Wormtongues who are telling him that being “moderate” is the thing and get back to doing what conservatives do best — winning elections by defending the pillars of conservatism. That will take a certain amount of boldness, but as Stacy points out,
fortune favors the bold”. No one who has ever run on a firm conservative platform of limited government, individual freedom and responsibility, defense of life, and unabashed pride for this country will lose to a mealy-mouthed moderate or a totalitarian progressive. Conservative values always work. John Cornyn needs to remember that before he embarrasses himself again.

Donald Douglas thinks the Florda primary is likely to determine the GOP’s future for quite a while. I agree with that. If Crist wins, it’s Specters as far as the eye can see and a Republican party that lacks the integrity to stand for freedom and responsibility.

Wormtongue! Yes, precisely!
This explains the MSM, Democrats, and centrist/moderate Republicans telling conservatives to move to the middle..
Colin Powell, I'm looking at you! And Snarlin Arlen, anger is a lefty thing. You'll fit right in with the savages.
I don't think it's any kind of premium bud that Cornyn is smoking. I smoked quite a bit of premo myself back in the day and it never infected my brain with such raw stupidity as this.
Crist – Less government, lower taxes, more job creation and 'fresh perspective'???
Sen Cornyn – Have you actually MET Charlie Crist? What did he do in florida which would make you think he is down with ANY of these ideas?
Global warming kills jobs, increases gov siz and influence, increases taxes and it's about as stale an idea Earth Day. And that's just ONE subject!
We just got rid of Specter so we needed to replace him with a younger, tanner, more metro(maybe)sexual version?
Well the NRSC just sent a big FU to the Conservative Base. What to do? I say go with the Conservative candidate…go RUBIO!
