When You Run at 200 MPH, Bad Things Can Happen
I have been watching car racing off and on pretty much all my life and I have never seen a worse-looking wreck than happened yesterday at Talladega. I thought for sure that Carl Edwards would not be able to walk away from his car. As you’ll see, he did better than that.
Just so you know, I think the guy who won the race was reckless. When he saw Edwards moving down a bit, he needed to back off at the speeds they were running. Alternately, NASCAR has to re-evaluate the “yellow line” rule (if the 09 had gone below that line, he would have been penalized for going out of bounds). If the officials had some discretion, then Keselowski could have gone below the yellow line and still made a race of it.
Alternately, there’s this from the race the day before. No rule is going to prevent a wreck like this.
