I know that the news out there today is all Swine flu all the time and I promise not to barrage you from here, but I did want to point out this petty little bit of political hackery from the Democratic lemming-tariat.

Well, it didn’t take long for partisan Democrats to blame the swine flu outbreak on the Republican Party.

Here’s the line: Since House Republicans all opposed the trillion-dollar-porkulus, which included funding for pandemic preparations, it’s all. Our. Fault.

She’s not kidding.

The quote of the day on this goes to Don Surber. While noting just how many top public health positions are still vacant, over three months after the President’s inauguration, Surber says,

Maybe if Obama did something more than preen and pat himself on the back for his first 100 days in office, we would actually have a government that did more than just blame Republicans for all the troubles of the world.

I’d say that everything depends on what you think is more important, governing or campaigning for the next election.

UPDATE: The President uses the occasion to push for more government spending and to blame our woes on Republicans.

Federal funding in the physical sciences as a portion of our gross domestic product has fallen by nearly half over the past quarter century. Time and again we’ve allowed the research and experimentation tax credit, which helps businesses grow and innovate, to lapse…. And we have watched as scientific integrity has been undermined and scientific research politicized in an effort to advance predetermined ideological agendas.

Who said what about crisis and opportunity?

I guess he didn’t see the sense in letting a chance to whip something up into an opportunity-laden crisis get past him, I suppose.

More updates below the jump. The left is in full JournoList Story Alignment Mode today.

UPDATE 2: The talking-point has its boots on, for sure.

I’ve edited the post title to reflect the statements from the President and the Democratic activist group. it’s not just the geniuses at the Nation pushing this meme but the entire Democratic machine, from the White House on down. I bet the JournoList is hot this morning.

UPDATE 3: You’ll never guess who one of those dastardly, fund-cutting Republicans is. I’ll give you a hint. His name rhymes with Schmuck Schmumer.

UPDATE 4: “The Truth Is The First Victim Of Swine Flu” says William Jacobsen at his own place and The Green Room. Read it as a good inoculation against the Democrats’ virulent meme.

UPDATE 5: Another sighting. My guess is that there’ll be a brief pause while the talking points are revised to account for Chuck Schumer.

UPDATE 6: Linked by Jeff Goldstein. Thank you!

Linked by Obi’s Sister, who has plenty more at her post.

Linked by the wonderful Sister Toldjah.

UPDATE 7: Why here’s ol’ Schmucky Schmumer himself!
