Why We Love the Newt.

newt-gingrichMichael van der Galien has himself a man crush, but it’s not just any man crush, nossiree. It’s Newt-sized!

Newt Gingrich is, as far as I am concerned, one of the best Republicans out there. He is intelligent, a problem-solver, understands how to win elections, and he is extremely savvy.

Why yes. Yes he is.

And what has drawn Michael’s admiration today? Well, Newt decided to go upside President Obama’s head for his Hugo Chavez bro-shake. The President, of course, is playing it off as no big deal, but Michael tells us why he’s dead wrong.

Obama defended himself earlier: “It’s unlikely that as a consequence of me shaking hands or having a polite conversation with Mr. Chavez that we are endangering the strategic interests of the United States,” the president told reporters at a news conference. “I don’t think anybody can find any evidence that that would do so. Even within this imaginative crowd, I think you would be hard-pressed to paint a scenario in which U.S. interests would be damaged as a consequence of us having a more constructive relationship with Venezuela.”

The above shows that the 44th president underestimates the power of words and attitude tremendously. World leaders are testing him, and Obama is failing almost every single test they subject him to. That is not a good sign. Whether Obama likes it or not, the world is a Hobbesian place. It is not Kant’s wonderful paradise in which we all get along. No, the world is a rough place and America’s enemies will hurt its interests if they think they can get away with it.

Gingrich is right. His criticism is spot-on. This is not about whether or not America should act in a more diplomatic manner, but about whether or not America’s leader should be overly humble and let himself be humiliated just because some foreigners feel the U.S. deserves it.

Exactly right.

All of the positive dialogue Obama is having with Hugo Chavez will only help to make Venezuela a potential ally. One of the things I admire most about President Obama is that he is not afraid to show a little humility for past actions of the US. I found a video that goes much further in depth about this issue by compiling global perspectives. http://www.newsy.com/videos/obama_ch_vez_handshak…

Kelsey – He's not showing humility; he's pointing at the country & saying I'm sorry THEY were so awful/so ignorant/so arrogant, etc. He doesn't take responsibility for any of it as he tells us over & over, he was either only 9 or only 4 months old or he voted present or whatever. So not only is he ducking responsibility, he is playing up some ridiculous supposed failures of the US & the previous administrations for the sole purpose of demonstrating how wonderful he is. Its very sick & immature. And what's worse is, if you have children, you probably recognize this behavior in them & scold them (because all children are very self-serving this way until they are taught not to be.) But now you fail to see it in a grown man. That's crazy.
