markos-zuniga-meet-the-pressLest we think that this reprehensible pronouncement by Markos Zuniga should be swept under the rug, let me remind you that he is the leader of the Democratic grassroots. His Yearly Kos gathering is an important stop for Democratic politicians seeking national office.

Zuniga himself is a mainstream figure who makes regular television appearances on MS-NBC and perhaps the most important taking heads show on television, Meet the Press. He’s also a regular contributor to Newsweek, The Hill, and had a regular column in the UK Guardian newspaper during the 2005 election there.

He is not a fringe player. He is a public face of the party and their go-to guy on new media. Conservatives should not hesitate for a second to hang his despicable, slanderous words around the neck of every single left-wing politician in the country. They bought him and his hate willingly and eagerly. Let’s make sure we don’t let them off the hook.

After the jump, the updates. Lots of them.

UPDATE: Ah, what’s a little more hate from the left, anyhow?

UPDATE 2: Looks like Zuniga is employing a little Rule 4 gambit to prop up his sagging traffic numbers, doesn’t it? Well, he isn’t the Internet Golden Boy for nothing.

UPDATE 3: Oh, the McCainalanche! Rule 4 works both ways, Zuniga, you disgusting little hack!

UPDATE 4: So does Rule 2. Thanks, Moe!

I think Zuniga is playing the Dems for fools and laughing all the way to the bank. All the more reason to hang him firmly around that party’s neck. Let them have the headaches.

UPDATE 5: Instalanche! If you’re new to the site, and you’re no monster, stay awhile and read up on the President’s enthusiasms or wonder who might be the newest famous plumber.

Another little side note. This isn’t just a matter of standing up against hate. It’s about holding public officials responsible for the people with whom they choose to associate. It’s pretty obvious that the Democratic Party has benefited greatly from keeping Zuniga close and he’s clearly made a whole lot of money off the association. The Dems shouldn’t be allowed to have all the dessert without eating some liver. It’s time for the liver and I hope it tastes as foul for them as it did to me when I was a kid.

See also Bob Owens on the subject.

UPDATE 6: Now that the story’s broken, do you think he’s repentant?
Heh. Guess again.

You push crazy nonsense theories about Obama and Democrats wanting to “take your guns away”, you live with the repercussions.

I suppose that Zuniga will claim ownership for all the folks who died in the Koran riots that were caused by a lie pushed by the left.

Probably not.

  3. John Primmer says:

“It’s about holding public officials responsible for the people with whom they choose to associate.” Yeah, that’ll work. Those public officials will retreat in shame for their moral lapse of associating with “Screw Them” Kos. Not too likely, when they are so busy creating trillions of debt for our children and grandchildren to face up to, and issuing bald-faced lies over the economy and their culpability. Do you really believe that the likes of Barney Frank, Henry Waxman, Nancy Pelosi, Chas. Rangel, Chuck Schumer, Pat Leahy et al are capable of examining their ingrained corruption? Markos plays them, but they go along willingly. He is the worm and they the flesh of the rotten fruit.

  4. Jimmie says:

Have we tried to hold them accountable? I don’t think so. Perhaps it’s time we gave it a try.

  5. Magic Dog says:

Gee, you spend 10-15 worshipping at the altar of Limbaugh, Colter, and O’Reilly, and now you are shocked, just shocked, to have someone throw it back in your faces. Grow up, kids.

  6. Jimmie says:

So, you’re good with what he said? Awesome. You won’t mind seeing it in some campaign commercials next year, then.

Good luck explaining that to people who don’t drink your Kool Aid.

  7. Cheesecake says:

Ah, what humor! Is this a defense?

Well, did you forget Oakland already? That guy’s sister said “He’s not a bad guy” after he had already been DNA linked to the rape of a 12 year old, and killed FOUR cops. They held a vigil for him.

If we ‘incite’ cop killing, you CELEBRATE it. What ‘Kos’ left out of his tweet was this: “When we were out of power, we organized to win the next election. Conservatives, apparently, prefer to talk “revolution” and kill cops. Oh yeah, and we also dream of assassinating the prez and veep.”

Real ‘grown ups’ do NOT use the murder of people for political gain. So your “grow up, kids” is entirely misdirected.

  9. Thanks for pulling all the information together in one spot. You’re analysis, as usual, is dead on and brilliantly written.

  10. Jimmie says:

    Why thank you, Wendy!

  11. Phelps says:

    Hey Kos:

You push crazy nonsense theories about conservatives inciting Nazis to shoot cops, you live with the repercussions.

  12. Jimmie says:

Remember, don’t take this out on Kos. He’s not going to change and he likes the publicity.

Take it out on the Democratic politicians and the MSM outlets that embrace him. Write letters. Stop watching and buying their products. Turn them out in November.

  13. fostert says:

Zuniga? Not only do I not know who that is, but I’m not sure who you even know who you’re talking about. The picture appears to be that that of Markos Moulitsas. If that’s the case, you are right to say he’s not a fringe person. That person represents the majority of Americans who voted for the current president and the current Congress. God forbid that the majority of Americans might have a voice. It’s just totally against the American Way that the majority of people would have even the slightest influence on our society. Isn’t it?

But really, where does ‘Zuniga’ even come from. If that’s an ethic slander against Greek Americans, I’m really not sure where that comes from. I grew up in a city where you had to know at least a little Greek to make an order in a Greek restaurant. They didn’t speak English, after all. And I never heard anything that would inspire that description. If it’s a slander against veterans, I still don’t see it. I know a lot of veterans, and it makes no sense, and I’m not sure why you’d want to offend our soldiers. So I look at your attempt at the denigration of either veterans or Greek people (not sure which) as completely ignorant. I know you like to make up derogatory names for people. And it’s something I find really offensive. I always refer to people by their names (well except for Caribou Barbie, but she’s a joke anyway- and getting funnier by the day). But at least you could come up with something that makes some kind of sense. So what does it mean?

I doubt you’ll explain this to me, so I’ll just assume that you mean to denigrate the soldiers that are fighting for our country, if not for our interests. Soldiers deserve our pride and gratitude, but those that send them to battle deserve our scrutiny and maybe our scorn.

  14. fostert says:

Okay so I looked up Zuniga. It’s a small town in northern Spain. The only connection I can think of is that both are Christian. So you are criticizing Mr Markos because he’s Christian? That’s quite bizarre, even for you, Jimmie. What’s going on in your head? Do you want another Thirty Years War? If you do, I’m all for it. Christians have always treated me poorly, so if they want to kill themselves again, I want a front row seat.

Really Jimmie, how’d you come up with ‘Zuniga?’

  15. Brandon says:

fostert, zuniga Markos’ mother’s (salvadoran) maiden name, appended to the end of his in typical hispanic tradition. Despite this, people in hispanic countries are normally referred to shorthand by the paternal surname.

Jimmie here is engaging in the time honored rightwing tradition of referring to adversaries by the less common name (“Hussein Obama”) to suggest there is something suspicious or deceitful about them (“they’re trying to hide their real name!”)

  16. Jimmie says:

    It’s his last name, fostert.

Brandon, it is true that people in hispanic countries are often referred to that way. However, as this is not a hispanic country, I refer to him by his last name, in our time-honored way. It is far more respectful than referring to him by his first name when I do not know him.

But, way to pick at that nit, both of you. I’ll assume that means that you’re okay with what he said as well. Not surpised, really.

  18. fostert says:

    “It’s his last name, fostert.”

Fair enough, I guess I don’t read him enough to have known that. But it’s the one part of his name you never hear.

And I am okay with what he said. Conservatives are violent people. I know that because I’ve been in jail. I live in a place where liberals outnumber conservatives by 8 to 1. Yet the split is even in jail. Liberals are mostly in jail for and drug and alcohol offenses, and conservatives are mostly in jail for assault and murder. But it’s mostly beating their wives, which conservatives don’t consider to be a crime.

  20. Jimmie says:

Well, you could assume that I do a basic level of research.

And you second paragraph is pure crap. I had hoped for better.

  21. fostert says:

“Well, you could assume that I do a basic level of research.”

Actually, you do research very well. I’m impressed by that. That’s why I read your blog.

“And you second paragraph is pure crap.”

Well you should spend some time in jail. That’s the one aspect of your research that is lacking. And it’s the one one point of my research that I really excel at. You should know that the conservative rants that may seem to be harmless thoughts really do inspire people to violence. And it is no joke.

The last time I was in jail, there was an ultra-conservative guy who was in there for scalping someone. And I’m not joking. The victim had claimed (rightly so) that we had mistreated the Native American people. So this guy cut off the portion of his skin that contained his hair, and he paraded around the trailer park holding the bloody scalp of his victim. Fortunately, the police came quickly and procured the scalp soon enough that it could be sewn back onto the victim. You can guess the prison nickname that this perpetrator received: The Barber. And he made it damn clear to everyone that he was only tying to protect society from liberal thought. So tell me how conservative writings are benign.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean….like when right-winger Rick Sanchez at the Conservative News Network (CNN) kept calling Joe the Plumber by his first name, Samuel?

    http://newsbusters.org/blogs/m.....oe-plumber

I want to share with you the thoughts of Samuel Wurzelbacher — you know, “Joe the Plumber” —

Samuel, let me talk to you directly.

They can’t speak for themselves, because they’re no longer with us, Samuel.

So on behalf of them, Sam, let’s see, you’re not really a licensed plumber. You’re not really a war correspondent. And your name isn’t even really Joe.

Well, that guy wasn’t made famous by John McCain and Sarah Palin. You were, Sam.

  23. Jimmie says:

fostert, I don’t have to spend time in jail. I’ve spent 20 years working for the police. I know the folks they arrest. They generally aren’t conservative using the conventional understanding of the ideology.
