So, Do We Call it Tweet Street Now?

| April 1, 2009 | Comments (0)

This is a pretty good April Fool’s Day joke made better because it’s the Guardian. had it been the New York Times, it would have been a much more difficult joke to pull off successfully since so much of their alleged news coverage boils down to “Dems rule, Rethugs drool. LOL ROFLCOPTER!!1!!”.

Kind of surprised they didn’t go with the Tweet Street pun as a big screamer headline. Oh well. Their loss is my gain!

The best paragraph of a well-done story? Right here.

A mammoth project is also under way to rewrite the whole of the newspaper’s archive, stretching back to 1821, in the form of tweets. Major stories already completed include “1832 Reform Act gives voting rights to one in five adult males yay!!!”; “OMG Hitler invades Poland, allies declare war see tinyurl.com/b5x6e for more”; and “JFK assassin8d @ Dallas, def. heard second gunshot from grassy knoll WTF?”

Well played, Guardian!

UPDATE: William Jacobson, Professor to the Stars, has the definitive roundup of April Fools’ Day posts working at his site, including this dandy from Cynthia Yockey.
