Too Bad the 2×4 He’s Using is Only Metaphorical
If it’s Tuesday, it must mean that it’s time for Stacy McCain to kick the stuffing out of another senseless David Brooks column. Brooks’ subject this time is the “midguided” Republican desire for private citizens to spend their money as they please, for private investors to decide where to invest their money, and for the Democrats to at least provide a smidgen of proof that government intervention in the private sector can bring us out of a recession.
Remember, as you read Stacy’s pummeling of the economically-illiterate Brooks, that the New York Times is paying Brooks a princely sum of money for his alleged wisdom.
Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal gives us chapter and verse on the new tax the Obama administration is getting ready to drop on every one of us. The President calls it “cap and trade” but it will amount to higher energy bills and higher prices on consumer goods that those higher energy prices will demand. The object, of course, is to reduce carbon emissions thereby saving the planet from a threat that does not exist.
A more suspicious man might wonder if the Democrats are intentionally pushing the cost of energy (and everything else) higher in the middle of a recession so they can demand a second trillion-dollar bailout to fix the “energy crisis” caused by evil utility companies.
That might be an interesting subject for a New York Times columnist who still claims right out where God can hit him with a lightning bolt that he is a conservative. Shame we don’t have anyone like that around.
UPDATE: “Pelosi open to second stimulus”. Maybe it doesn’t require that a man be all that suspicious at all. The takeaway line:
“We hope it will be sooner rather than later that [the stimulus] catches fire in Washington, D.C. But we aren’t waiting,” she said.
I guess the Dumbest Speaker of the House in History has decided she doesn’t need a pretense anymore.
