Meanwhile, Congressional Democrats, doing the bidding of the teachers’ unions that give them millions of dollars every election cycle, voted to toss 1,700 poor children back into the festering pit that we call the Washington, DC public school system. You’ll enjoy reading Dick Durbin’s pathetic rationalizations, I”m sure.
But they’re all about helping the common man. Champions of the poor and destitute?
Right? Right.

I met the woman who started this program a few years ago when I worked at Clare Boothe Luce Policy Institute.
She told an inspiring story about a man who had lost his way and was looking to get his son into a better school in order to prevent him from traveling down the same path.
A year later, that same man came back, all cleaned up. His son’s scholarship had inspired him to clean up his act and lead a better life.
Sometimes I think they do this just to ensure that they will always have voters by ensuring the welfare rolls are always filled.
So long as the teachers unions are strong, the Democrats will always have a ready source of income.
It’s a shame they killed the program. We need to be looking for good programs that give us good results, even if the educational results are only marginally better.
